Our way up to the Großglockner summit was in one word, ineffable! The surrounding went from green to grey to eventually snow white. After we woke up one hour too late because we set the alarm wrong, we started the route. The first part of the route was so epic that it almost looked like a movie scene. We walked and climbed for a couple hours and eventually we made it the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte were we wanted to drop our stuff so we could summit as light-weight as possible. Unfortunately the mountain guide in the hut advised us not to summit today because af the bad weather. We had to stay the night an summit early in the morning, not the baddest situation since we’ll were pretty hungry by the smell in the hut.
The next day we started the final push to the summit around six. Not knowing there were more than 30 people in front of us on the same small mountain passage. It took us almost half an hour to pass two groups on the small ridge. Because we’d stand still for most of the time it felt like some part of our body could fall of in a moment, it was so cold! But the cold couldn’t compare to the joy we felt when we summited the Großglockner!
